How do you save each other’s pride?
I normally get questions from a scripture. But this blog I am going to use a line from a song. The song is “They will know we are Christian’s by our Love” by King and Country. I love this song and have sung it many times. One day while singing this song GOD put a question on my heart. The question is, how do you guard each other’s dignity and how do you save each other’s pride?
The lyrics that I am getting this question from is, “And we’ll guard each other’s dignity and save each other’s pride.” With this blog I am going to answer part of that question. The question is How do you save each other’s pride? I will answer How do you guard each other dignity? In another blog. As I was going through the scriptures, listening to a different version of the song, and finding the answer to my questions, I got 2 more questions. “Why does GOD hate pride? And “How do we become one in the Spirit?” I will answer these questions in a different blog. First, I am going to look at the meaning of pride. One place I found: a feeling of deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one’s own achievement, the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated, or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired. When I found this, I thought to myself “But I have satisfaction when I do something that others like.” So, I keep looking in other places for the meaning of pride. Another place I found: a high or inordinate opinion of one’s own dignity, importance, merit, or superiority, whether as cherished in the mind or as displayed in bearing, conduct. and a deep satisfaction of me doing something.
I don’t always have a high opinion of myself, but I am satisfied with myself when I do things correctly. As I was reading this definition, I asked myself: why do I need saving from pride? There is a word in that definition that we need to look at which is superiority. I looked up the definition of superiority and this is what I found: the state or fact of being better, more important, or higher in rank than others.
Ok Being better or higher ranked than others. Now I understand a little more why we need to be careful of our pride. But I still have more questions. What does GOD and the bible say about pride? And why is being prideful wrong? Next let’s look at what GOD and the bible says about pride.
1 John 2:16 say’s “For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father but are from this world.”
Proverbs 8:13 say’s “All who fear the Lord will hate evil. Therefore, I hate pride and arrogance, corruption, and perverse speech.”
That is loud and clear to me. The bible says Pride is us CRAVING physical pleasure and our achievements and GOD hates pride and pride is from the world. And GOD hates pride. But why does GOD hate pride? I answered this question in another blog. I am going to answer the question with the scripture that I used in that blog to answer the question.
Psalm 10:3 – 4 say’s “For the wicked boasts of the desires of his soul, and the one greedy for gain curses and renounces the Lord. In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him; all his thoughts are, “There is no God.”
Every time I read this scripture; I see a different reason why GOD hates Pride. I talk more about that in my blog: Why does GOD hate Pride? When I found this scripture, I had to look up the meaning of boasts. The meaning of boasts is talk with excessive pride and self-satisfaction about one’s achievements, possessions, of abilities. Boasting is excessive pride, and it will make you think that there is no GOD because you did it yourself. Now I understand why GOD hates pride. As a Christian I know GOD. I know that I need to guard my soul against straying away from GOD. These scriptures and definition of words remind me of Matthew 22:37-40 which tells me that GOD wants me to love him not my desires of my soul.
Matthew 22:37-40 says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
I Love GOD and I don’t want my soul to get boastful or prideful. So, I do want others to help me save my pride. So, I want to know how GOD wants us to save each other’s pride not how the world wants us to save each other’s pride. As I was looking through scripture, I found a lot of scripture about teaching. The website I was using to look at scripture had the following.
“The Purpose of Proverbs”
“1 These are the proverbs of Solomon, David’s son, king of Israel. 2 Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline, to help them understand the insights of the wise. 3 Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives, to help them do what is right, just, and fair. 4 These proverbs will give insight to the simple, knowledge and discernment to the young.”
2 Timothy 3:16 say’s “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.”
The purpose of Proverbs to teach people. And 2 Timothy 3:16 tells me that all scripture is useful to teach. So, I am going to use scripture to answer my question of how do we save each other’s pride?
Hebrews 10:24-25 say’s “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.”
2 Timothy 4:2 say’s “Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching.”
Titus 2:7 say’s “And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching.”
People can teach and preach GOD’s word to me but if part of pride is craving physical pleasure, how do I fill that craving. Psalm 107: 8-10 answers that question. Psalm 107:8-10 say’s “Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things.”
GOD CAN FILL THE LONGING OF THE SOUL.
The scripture I am going to use to answer my question is, Proverbs 1:1-4
“1 These are the proverbs of Solomon, David’s son, king of Israel. 2 Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline, to help them understand the insights of the wise. 3 Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives, to help them do what is right, just, and fair. 4 These proverbs will give insight to the simple, knowledge and discernment to the young.”
When I read scripture like these, I know that I need to keep looking at scripture. I need to keep GODLY people in my life to guard me from pride, so GOD can fill my soul and so I will know the answers to the questions that GOD gives me. Every time I answer GOD’s questions, I get more questions. GOD gives my soul great JOY each time I find the answers to his questions. If my scriptures and answers did not answer any questions that GOD gave you, please ask me. I will enjoy looking for scripture to find the answers for you. I would love to know if people truly know how to save each other pride. Or are people singing this song to just sing?
My Question for the world is: Do you know if you are prideful with yourself? Do you try to be a good Christian to your friends when they are prideful, or do you just look the other way?
My Prayer for me is: OH, Heavenly Father, please keep me from getting prideful with myself when I am living my life for you. I struggle some days with finding the answers to your questions, so when I do find them and when I get more questions, let me know that they are Whispers from you. OH, Heavenly Father, help my friends and family be graces with their words to me if they think I am getting prideful. Bless every one that is sharing your love and word with the world with being able to keep them self from becoming prideful.
